Aindrias de Staic Actor, Musician, Comic Writer, Film Maker Galway, Melbourne, London, California www.aindrias.com Washed up on the eastern coast of Aus, like so many Irish backpackers, this performer form Galway Ireland, with a dubious french background joined the thousands of british backpakers sleepin on beaches, bing drinking and floating through a couch surfers paradise of Irish pubs until his addictions to drugs found him whining like a dog , homeless on the streets of Melbourne..Barred from all the pubs in town, Aindrias took on a Greek identity, playing violin and bouzouki in the Greek cafés of Fitzroy and Brunswick for food and wine until a an explosive red wine induced drug binge saw him flee unscathed form a housefire in West Brunswick, Aindrias never drank again. "a part of me died that winter in Melbourne...ill never forget` But within a few months he was perfroming w street enterainers and acting in theatre plays including The Black Lung famous production of Avast. Jamming violin at warehouse parties and busking for gold on Brunswick st,led to scoring gigs of music and poetery he was soon surrounded by local buskers and atracting a world of musicians who would later form into many of the gypsy bands still playing the circuit in the northern suburbs. IN 2006, a road trip to Geelong resulted in a short film which went on to win a few little awards, including Best Actor Award and Audience Award at Fitzroy Shorts, and a few other Short films n TV appearances followed as the performer re-emerged with healthy talent. ''I was born again on the streets of Melbourne" he admits" i remember that Melbourne Autumn, the harvest of my life's emotions"
Aindrias fashioned his experiences into a stage show "the year i got Younger" which has won awards accolades at fringe festivals internationally including a nomination for the Malcolm Hardee Award for alternative comedy at the Edinburgh FRINGE. and he s currently adapting this piece to screen and is always interested to work with local film makers.
Other works include his comedy show " Around the World on 80 Quid" a favourite at festivals and events, and his show "Summer i did the leaving" won the Three Weeks Editors Choice Award in the UK 2009.
As an original member of Rapskallion, Aindrias penned the lyrics to their "When the Wine kicks in" and he continues to collaborate w various, bands, music makers, theatre directors and film makers in Melbourne and in 2010 he won the Trop Fest "Bright Spark Award" for his role as "Micheal" in the film A Moment of Grace.
2011 sees Aindrias leave Melb temporarily to take a lead role on London's West End, in the show Woody Sez about the life of Woody Guthrie, but Aindrias vows to return to Melb again. ''Its my home now, he says "Northcote is only place in the world its accepted to have a Greek name, Irish accent, Italian looks, play a Gypsy violin and drink a soy chai laté rather than a pint of lager! -i love it!"
