Welcome to the 7th Underground Cinema Film Festival

A champion of emerging filmmakers, Underground Cinema has the belief that no matter what the film’s budget or the director’s vision it’s the filmmakers passion that drives a film.

This year presents a new generation of adventurous independent filmmaking, in which boundaries are explored, pushed and often broken. The creative means employed in these films will take audiences on a wild ride towards the future of cinematic storytelling.

As technology allows greater access to short and feature films as well as filmmaking tools, an increasing number of people are turning to filmmaking as a form of expression and an opportunity to explore creative freedom. The fact that we received 300 more submissions than last year is proof of this. Within these films we saw a wave of truly original and outrageously distinctive films united by their uncompromised spirit.

The 7th Underground Cinema Film festival is this year firmly focusing on indie films from around the globe.  Traditionally we have hosted a selection of filmmakers throughout the festival week.  This year we have decided to cut the workshops which means that we can include more entries.  As a result we are now hosting our biggest film festival ever with over 130 films being screened over 3 days.

At this years festival we have selected a number of international short and feature films which we are going to screen free of charge.  It's a fantastic opportunity to get to see some international indie film making.  I would encourage anyone that has an interest in international film to come along and support these film makers.

We have also kept our ticket prices at low, with online booking even cheaper then front of house booking.  We have also introduced an affordable festival pass for €50 (online).  This pass will get you in to everything over the three days of the festival.  The only programs that it does not include are the opening and closing films.  The festival pass is designed to keep your entertained over three days and also to network throughout the festival.

The 7th Underground Cinema Film Festival takes place in the magnificent Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire from September 9th to the 11th.  We are really looking forward to seeing you there
